Milk production will increase in Uttarakhand due to cattle breed improvement
The state has seen encouraging results in the improvement of cattle and buffalo breeds. Using sex-sorted semen, 95 percent of the offspring born to these animals were female calves.
Dehradun, State Bureau: Under the National Gokul Mission, the National Artificial Insemination Program has yielded encouraging results in improving the breed of indigenous cattle and buffaloes in the state. The use of sex-sorted semen resulted in 95 percent of the offspring being female calves. Milk production has also increased. The second phase of this artificial insemination program is set to begin on August 1st. Under this phase, the target is to inseminate 50,000 animals in each district of the state.
